Gennaker's rupture rupture

Breakage of the gennaker halyard on Use It Again! by Extia. The account of this misadventure by Romain:

"We didn't see it coming. At the end of the day yesterday, Titouan was at the helm when the gennaker fell in the water while I was working aft. The halyard snapped! We slowed down and tried to find the right solution to bring the sail back on board. She was still held by the tack forward and the clew aft. We put a halyard on the clew and the border found itself hoisted in the air, it took part of the sail out of the water, then the wind caught in it, it was enough dangerous because there was all the cable lying around with the gennaker pulley hitting in all directions. We steered the boat so as to choke the sail and it ended up coming back onto the trampoline.

We then cut the luff to recover the cable, and we folded the torn sail to store it in the boat. We didn't leave anything in the water, that's our little pride!

The maneuver lasted more than 2 hours, we were very tired, night was falling, there was a squall just in front of us… But we managed the situation well. »
